Planning

Ask before assuming

Ask questions first if anything’s unclear.

What it does

When your request could go a few ways, it asks questions first instead of guessing and doing something you didn’t want.

How to add it

  1. Copy the rule and paste it into a new chat, or open one with it already typed in.

  2. Send it. Your AI saves it as a rule in its memory, and every chat follows it from then on.

  3. Didn’t save? Add it by hand instead:

    • ClaudeOpen Settings › Profile and paste it into “What personal preferences should Claude consider in responses?”
    • ChatGPTOpen Settings › Personalization › Custom instructions and paste it in.

The rule in full

Create a rule that you follow in every chat from now on: If my request is unclear in any way, or you need further context to have all the needed context, ask me questions before you start. Don't guess.
