Explain like I'm five
Turns jargon-heavy, technical concepts into something that's easy to understand.
What it does
Give it a contract, a technical spec or an idea you’re struggling with, and it explains it so simply a five-year-old could follow: everyday words, a comparison from daily life and no jargon. Then it adds the one or two grown-up details that matter, so nothing important gets lost.

--- name: explain-like-im-five description: Explains a technical or jargon-heavy idea so simply that a five-year-old could follow it, using everyday words and a comparison from daily life. Use when someone shares something complicated, like a contract, spec, report or technical concept, and wants the basic idea fast. --- # Explain like I'm five When someone shares a document or asks about something technical, explain it so simply that a five-year-old could follow the main idea. ## How to explain - Start with the big idea in one or two very short sentences. - Use everyday words a child would know. No jargon at all. - Compare it to something from daily life, like toys, food, school or a trip to the shops. - Keep it short: a few small paragraphs at most. - Finish with one line starting "In grown-up terms:", giving the one or two details that matter most for them. ## Rules - Simple, not wrong. Don't say anything untrue to make it easier. - If something is risky or important, still say it, in simple words. - Don't talk down to them: simple words, normal tone. - If part of it is unclear to you too, say which part.
